There are many benefits to growing these beautiful blooms including their cut flowers and free edible seeds. They also attract pest-patrolling birds and bees to improve your harvest, and even help detox contaminated soil. We also make sure we test our soil before planting. As we own up to 450 hectors of land where we are able to produce the best crops
Cattle Farming
We commonly raise cattles as livestock for meat (beef or veal), for milk (dairy cattle), and for hides, which are used to make leather. They are used as riding animals and draft animals (oxen or bullocks, which pull carts, plows and other implements).
Farm Management Consulting
We provide a one-touch solution to agribusiness entrepreneurs, right from professional advice on venture choice, feasibility study (including land and natural resources), cost benefit analysis to business plan, and overall farm management.
Soil Sampling, Testing and Analysis
We endeavour to expose our growers under this practice to enable them learn as much as possible about their soil in order to produce the best yields. This includes knowing what nutrient deficiencies exist in their soil, the kind of pathogens that are likely to affect plant health, and what nutritional program best suit their soils.
Sunflowers
In South Africa, sunflower is planted from the beginning of November to the end of December in the eastern areas and to mid-Janu- ary in the western areas. Sunflower seeds are planted at relatively shallow depths. In soil with a high clay content, seeds are planted at a depth of 25 mm.
Maize
Maize is one of South Africa’s most important food crops, accounting for roughly two thirds of the country’s commercial area under field crops. Two types of maize are produced for maize cultivation, namely white and yellow maize. Most of the white maize is used for human consumption, whereas most of the yellow maize is used for animal feed production.
Wheat
Wheat is produced under irrigation in parts of Mpumalanga and the North West.
The crop requires about 600 mm of water per year, so conservation farming practices, which include minimum tillage with stubble retention are recommended for moisture conservation in dryland production.
Soya bean
Soya bean is now being successfully produced in areas such as Bothaville in the Free State and Schweizer Reneke in North West, and was an ideal commodity to be included in a crop rotation system. Not only does it put nitrogen back into the soil, it also breaks disease cycles, Willemse said.
Soya bean input costs are lower than that of maize, which increased farmers’ profitability and sustainability.
